On the week of May 7-11 it is Hunger Awareness Week. Hunger Awareness Week is used by food banks across Canada to tell the story of the work they do and the stories of hungry Canadians assisted by food banks.
“In 2011, close to 900,000 people were assisted each month by a food bank in Canada. This is essentially unchanged from 2010, and remains 26% above levels experienced before the 2008-2009 recession.”
As York South-Weston it is important that we lend the food banks in our community a hand.
Have you ever volunteered at a food bank?
Have you ever donated to a food bank?
If you answered no to all or even one of those questions it is time that you get out to the food banks in our community this Hunger Awareness Week!
Food banks are always looking for volunteers to help out and why not give a little? Currently a food bank in our community is in need of some assistance,
The Weston Area Emergency Support at 1844 Weston Rd (behind frontlines) – 416-247-3737 (should call before delivering)
They need:
-Non-perishable food items above all
-fruit (cans)
-juices
-lunch sized snacks (for kids lunches)
-personal care items (toothpaste etc etc…)
If you are a food bank in York South-Weston and are in need of assistance this is the perfect week to ask for it! Contact our office if we can add your food bank name, address and needs to this site.
